UPDATE: Suspect in Green Creek Hit and Run Faces New Charge

GREEN CREEK – Kristen Schwakoff was charged Sept. 4 on a summons with leaving the scene of a crash resulting in a death, a second degree crime.
The Middle Township Police Department and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office are actively investigating the crash. Detectives are looking for witnesses that have not come forward yet, or anyone with information on the crash. The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The family of Samuel Caraballo III announced his death Aug. 31. Caraballo, a Woodbine resident, was struck by a vehicle driven by Kristen Schwakoff on Rt. 47 Aug. 24.
A fundraiser web site has been set up for donations to Caraballo’s family. On the site, it reads, “It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Sammy Caraballo III. Sammy could light up a room and melt your heart with his smile. Let’s celebrate the fact that he graced us with his presence for 21 years. Rest in peace SC3.”

GREEN CREEK – Middle Township Police Department received several 911 calls reporting two pedestrians that were struck by a vehicle on Rt. 47 in Green Creek Aug. 24 at 1:11 a.m.
The vehicle left the scene and continued to travel south on Rt. 47. Upon arrival the responding patrol officers found a chaotic scene with numerous people on the side of the road. The officers quickly discovered that one victim, Ryan Burton, 25, of Whitesboro, was struck by the vehicle and thrown to the side of the road. The second victim, Samuel Caraballo, 22, of Woodbine, was struck by the vehicle and was thrown up in the air and landed in the back seat of the vehicle.
A witness followed the vehicle south on Rt. 47, then onto Fulling Mill Road. The witness was honking their horn to signal for the person to stop. The vehicle stopped on Fulling Mill road by the CMC Airport.
Carraballo was then given aid by Lower Township Rescue and Medics from Atlanticare.
Burton was taken to Cape Regional Medical Center for treatment, and Caraballo was flown to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The vehicle was a Kia Sport with a canvass top. The driver was Kristen Schwakoff, 25, of North Wildwood. Schwakoff has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury, a third degree crime.
The crash is still under investigation by the Middle Township Major Crime Unit and Fatal Crash Team.
