CLERMONT– A two vehicle crash caused Route 9 to be shut down for Approximately one hour on Friday, May 14.
The crash occurred just before 4:30 p.m., in the area of mile post 18.
A pick-up-truck towing a small boat overturned; the driver identified as George Trexler Jr.,32, of Gibbstown, was able to escape from the truck. State Police said Trexler was treated on scene by Belleplain Emergency Corps. The driver of the second vehicle identified as Catherine Tierney, 57, of Strathmere had to be extricated from her 2005 Gold Ford Thunderbird by members of the Ocean View Fire department.
South Star medevac was initially dispatched then later recalled. State Police said Tierney was transported to Cape Regional by Belleplain Emergency Corps and Medic 9. Her injuries were said to be “moderate”, according to state police.
According to state police their investigation on scene revealed that Trexler was traveling South on Route 9 when he for unknown reasons lost control of his vehicle and crossed over the northbound lane of travel and struck Tierney
The Middle Township police department also responded to the crash and assisted with traffic control.
This accident is currently being investigated by Trooper J. Wheeler
