UPDATE: The Hairport Hair Salon in Rio Grande reopened for business Thursday, April 16.
RIO GRANDE – Middle Township Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to 1127 SH 47 South “LeRic Plaza” for a single car motor vehicle crash April 10 at 2:30 p.m.
The vehicle, driven by Catherine Oney, 55, of Cape May, was attempting to park in the LeRic Plaza parking lot, when she accidentally pushed the gas pedal instead of the brake, causing the vehicle to strike a yellow safety barrier, elevating the vehicle over the curb and through the front of the Hairport Hair Salon. The business was closed at the time; there were no serious injuries reported.
Inspectors responded to the scene to ensure the building was structurally sound.
The driver was issued a summons for careless driving.
A similar incident occurred at the Hairport Salon June 30, 2009.

Middle Township Police and Rio Grande Fire Company responded to reports of a driver crashing a vehicle into Hairport Hair Salon in LeRic Plaza in Rio Grande April 10 around 2:27 p.m.
According to Rio Grande Fire Chief Rich Sweeten, there was one woman in the vehicle and the hair salon was closed at the time of the crash. No injuries were reported.
Fire officials were awaiting the code official who would determine the structural integrity of the building before removing the vehicle.
A similar incident occurred at the Hairport Salon June 30, 2009.
