By Herald Staff

RIO GRANDE – A Jan. 21 accident on Route 47 involving a tow truck and a passenger vehicle sent three people to area hospitals.
Middle Township police responded to the crash at 4 p.m. at the intersection of Route 47 and Second Street near the T&A Car Wash.
A police investigation revealed the tow truck, owned by Cape May Gulf and operated by Bruce Ellingsworth, 51, of West Chester, Pa., was traveling northbound on the highway in the area of Second Street. A Chevrolet Impala, driven by Antonio Rodriguez, 67, of Villas pulled out of Second Street and crashed into the tow truck. Also inside Rodriguez’ vehicle was one passenger, Karen Abdelazim, 47, also of Villas.
Rodriquez was extricated from his vehicle via the Jaws of Life by Rio Grande Fire Company. He was flown to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. Ellingsworth and Abdelazim were transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
Rodriquez was issued a summons for careless driving.
