UPDATE: Rio Accident Closes Part of Route 47, Victims Names Released

RIO GRANDE — UPDATE: There were two vehicles involved in the motor vehicle accident near Wildwood Water Works on Route 47 at 1:09 PM, July 29.
Amanda Lloyd, age 25, of North Cape May, driver of the green Ford Taurus,was headed south on Route 47. She lost control of the vehicle and swerved in front of a silver Mercury Sable, headed north on Route 47. The silver Mercury Sable was operated by Elizabeth Melli, age 28, of Green Creek. The Sable had four passengers, Raymond Sparks, age 30, of Green Creek was in the front seat, and there were three young children in the backseat.
Five patients were transported by helicopters to hospitals throughout the region, and one patient was ground transported to Atlantic Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City.
Lloyd told police that there had been two other passengers in her Taurus and police performed a search in the surrounding area. However, the driver had been confused due to head injuries she suffered during the accident. She had been the only passenger in the green vehicle, according to Capt. John Edwards of Middle Township Police Department.
Fire police were utilized for traffic control at Fulling Mill Road, Rio Grande and Bayshore Road in Green Creek to close the highway to through traffic as the accident was being investigated and victims removed.
Helicopters utilized Paramount Air Service flying field on Route 47, Green Creek for patient transfer. The first to be flown out was the child, according to police radio reports.
The crash is still under investigation by the Middle Township Police Department and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.

Middle Township police, Rio Grande and Green Creek fire departments were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident near the S-curve by Wildwood Water Works at 1:10 p.m. July 29.
There were reportedly six victims that required transportation to a medical facility.
A number of ambulances and four medical helicopters were dispatched.
Route 47 was closed to traffic at Fulling Mill Road and at Bayshore Road.
