AVALON – A portion of Ocean Drive in Avalon between 13th-16th streets that had been closed Friday, June 13 due to an accident has been re-opened by the Avalon Office of Emergency Management, according to the Borough of Avalon’s wesbite.
An accident involving a tractor trailer and several utility poles caused a closure of that section of Ocean Drive for 15 hours.
Utility crews continue to work in the area; please exercise caution while driving and obey all safety and traffic signs. Atlantic City Electric reports that all power has been restored to the north end of Avalon. A major power outage will affect sections of the northern end of Avalon Friday night, June 13 and Saturday morning, June 14, according to the Borough of Avalon’s wesbite.
Shortly before 3:30 p.m., a tractor trailer accident caused the destruction of four utility poles at 15th Street and Ocean Drive. All of the poles were destroyed along with the power transformers. The resulting power outage affected 1,400 customers, largely in the vicinity of Ocean Drive in the northern section of Avalon.
At around 6:00 p.m. June 13, Avalon released an update on their Facebook page stating that “Atlantic City Electric reports that the number of outages are now reduced to just under 200 customers. Customers will remain without power from the vicinity of 16th Street north to the Townsend’s Inlet Bridge along and between Ocean Drive and Dune Drive. Some outages in the immediate area of the accident at 15th Street and Ocean Drive will likely remain without power into the overnight hours.”

In addition, the Avalon Office of Emergency Management reports that Ocean Drive between 13th Street and 16th Street will be closed to all pedestrian and vehicular traffic until at least Saturday morning, June 14, as new poles and transformers are placed into service.
