GREEN CREEK– A pedestrian was struck by a hit and run driver Sunday night on Bayshore Road in the area of the Green Creek fire house.
The victim, Alex Scarpitti, 22 of the Villas was walking north on Bayshore road towards Route 47 with his two friends Christopher McCullen and Edward Augustyn Jr. All three stated they were walking on the shoulder of the roadway but were not near the fog line.
McCullen and Augustyn were only a few feet behind Scarpitti when they witnessed what they believed to be a Ford car, swerve off the roadway and strike Scarpitti who was thrown about 15 feet north.
McCullen and Augustyn could not give any description of the vehicle’s color or model but noted that it turned south onto Route 47, fleeing the scene.
A piece of the passenger side mirror was recovered but police were unable to get a further idea of what type of vehicle it may have been.
The victim was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center by Middle Township EMS and AtlantiCare paramedics. Police said Scarpitti suffered lacerations to his face and a broken leg.
