UPDATE – On March 13, Middle Township Police Department confirmed that Timothy McCart passed away March 12 at AtlanticCare Regional Medical Center, Atlantic City.
The investigation into the accident is still ongoing.

RIO GRANDE – Middle Township Police Department received numerous 911 calls reporting a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle near the intersection of State Highway 47 and Second Avenue in Rio Grande Wednesday, March 11 at approximately 8:20 p.m.
Upon arrival of officers, it was learned the pedestrian, Timothy McCart, 55, of Rio Grande, was crossing State Highway 47 in his wheelchair, adjacent to the Village Shoppes, when he was struck by a silver-colored Ford Focus, which was headed westbound. The operator of the Ford Focus was Joseph Walczyk, Jr., 19, of Dennis Township. As a result of the crash, McCart was airlifted to AtlanticCare Medical Center- City Division, and is currently listed in critical condition.
The motor vehicle crash is being investigated by the department’s Fatal Crash Unit, Detective Tracey Super of the department’s Major Crimes Unit, and Corporal Fred Crawley of the department’s Patrol Division. Anyone who witnessed the crash is requested to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 609-465-8700.
