GOSHEN — On Sun., Sept. 12, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Middle Township Police Communications received numerous calls of a motor vehicle crash, involving a motorcycle and three other vehicles, and serious injuries reported at the scene.
Middle Township Ambulance Corps and Rio Grande Rescue Squad where first to be dispatched to the scene.
Additional ambulances were called from Cape Regional Medical Center, Stone Harbor, Sea Isle City, Cape May, North Wildwood and Belleplain as part of the county EMS task force.
Upon police response to the scene, it was learned that a Mercedes Benz driven by Christopher Bruni’s had been stopped, waiting to turn onto Bucks Avenue, when a Mercury Sable driven by Anne Dougherty, 63, of Emmitsburg, Md., hit him from behind pushing both vehicles into the northbound lane, striking a motorcycle.
The operator of the motorcycle identified Andrew Doak, 25, of Gibbstown, N.J., died, at the scene, as a result of his injuries.
The Mercedes and Mercury also hit a northbound Jeep Cherokee behind Doak driven by Domenic Hall, 25.
According to police six people were injured. Three patients were taken to the trauma unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City and three were taken to Cape Regional.
The crash is being investigated by Middle Township Police Cpl. Fred Crawley, assisted by the New Jersey State Police, Crash
Investigation Team, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and the Middle Township Crash Investigation Team.
No charges have been filed at this time.
Goshen, Court House and Rio Grande Fire Companies responded to the scene, according to police.
Route 47 has been closed for 2 ½ hrs, between Hand Avenue, and CR657, since the initial crash. Troopers from the Woodbine barracks of the New Jersey State Police, the NJDOT, and Cape May County Fire Police, also assisted with road closure.
