ERMA — Lower Township Police Chief Edward Donohue confirmed Monday that a two-car motor vehicle accident that occurred on Jan. 31, claimed the life of a local North Wildwood woman.
Lower Township Police identified the victim of the accident as Marianne A. Tirimacco, 47, of the 200 Block of 17th Avenue, North Wildwood.
According to police, preliminary investigation of the accident determined that Mrs. Tirimacco was proceeding southbound on Railroad Avenue at approximately 3:20 p.m., operating a gray, Pontiac Solstice Convertible when she lost traction due to snow and ice on the roadway. The vehicle then spun out of control.
The rear portion of her vehicle then impacted with the front of a beige Chevrolet Malibu Wagon that was proceeding northbound on Railroad Avenue. That vehicle was being operated by Carol Dann, 63 of Villas.
The impact of the collision caused Tirimacco’s vehicle to spin even further at which point the driver, who police had determined was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected out the passenger’s side front window and was subsequently struck by her own vehicle.
The vehicle came to rest on the west side of the northbound lane of Railroad Avenue after taking down several rows of mailboxes.
The Chevy Malibu came to rest in the middle of the northbound lane of travel, after which Dann had to be extricated from the vehicle by Erma and Villas firefighters, who were called to the scene for a Jaws assignment.
Dann was transported to the Cape Regional Medical Center by Lower Township Rescue Squad and was later admitted to the hospital for injuries sustained in the accident.
Rescue personnel administered CPR to Tirimacco at the scene and during transport to Cape Regional Medical Center. Despite these resuscitation efforts and further efforts made at the hospital, Tirimacco was pronounced in the Emergency Room.
Donohue reported that Lower Township Police Officers responded to a total of nine weather related motor vehicle accidents from Saturday morning through Sunday evening.
The accident is under investigation by Detective Edward Dougherty and Cpl. Ernest Macomber, members of the department’s Fatal Accident Investigation Team.
