UPDATE: No Sign of Aircraft Down; Search Called Off

By Harry B. Scheeler Jr.

REED’S BEACH — On October 18, 2010 Middle Twp. police received one call of an airplane that landed in the water west of Reeds Beach in the Delaware Bay.
Officers on scene observed through binoculars, a large military type aircraft flying low to the water or land near the Delaware side of the bay.
The FAA in Atlantic City was contacted as well as the New Jersey State Police and U.S. Coast Guard. The USCG sent out a helicopter and the NJSP sent out its Southstar helicopter and a boat to search the area. Dover Air force base was contacted as well.
The NJSP later reported that the search turned up negative for any downed aircraft and both McGuire and Dover Air force bases had accounted for all of their aircrafts.
There was no comment on any military training operations in the area by the U.S. Air force.
