MARMORA– Upper Township Rescue Squad, Atlanticare paramedics and the Marmora Fire Department were dispatched to Tuckahoe Road just West of Church Road at 7:44 p.m. on Monday, Dec 21 for a reported rollover.
Marmora Fire Department arrived on scene and reported a pick-up truck was overturned with the driver trapped. A medevac helicopter was requested to fly. Wires were also reported to be down in the roadway.
Shortly after medical services arrived on scene the medevac was recalled.
Carlton Heaton, 66, of Marmora was was pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police.
Police said Heaton, was driving too fast for the wet and icy road conditions. The GMC Sierra pick-up he was driving left the road, struck a utility pole, and came to rest against some trees.
Members of the State Police Fatal Accident Unit and Criminal Investigation Division were called to the scene with the southern state regional medical examiners office.
Tuckahoe Road was closed for over two hours for accident clean up and investigation.
