RIO GRANDE– A pedestrian that was struck on Route 47 and 5th Street was airlifted to the trauma unit at Atlanticare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City Monday night.
Police said Amanda Lee, 18, of the Villas, was travelling north on Route 47 in a 1997 Honda Civic when Arthur Schellinger, III ,48, and homeless, attempted to cross the roadway not using the crosswalk and was struck by Lee.
Police said, Schellinger was intoxicated and walked into the roadway, and was almost struck by another vehicle prior to being struck by Lee who had the green light at the upcoming intersection.
Schellinger was transported to the Cape May armory by the Middle Township rescue squad where he was transfered to South Star medevac.
The flight crew reported the patient was struck by a vehicle at approximately 35 miles per hour. His condition was reported to be stable.
