UPDATE: Drivers in Route 47 Crash Identified

By Harry B. Scheeler Jr.

GOSHEN — Three people were injured Wed., Dec. 22, in a two vehicle head-on collision between a Mercedes Benz and Ford Mustang here on Route 47 at mile post 15.8, police said.
The crash occurred at 5:25 p.m., bringing traffic in both directions to a stand still.
Firefighters responded to the scene and had to extricate the driver of the Mustang identified by police as Casimir Rupinski III, 38, of North Cape May and a passenger in his vehicle identified as Rebecca Alexander, 38 of Lower Township.
Larry Hummel, 70, of Townbank, the driver of the Mercedes was heavily entrapped. Firefighters worked for over forty-five minutes to free him. Police identified the Goshen, Court House, Townbank, Dennis and Ocean View fire departments as participating in the rescue effort.
Emergency Medical Technicians from Middle Township Rescue, Belleplain Emergency Corps and Cape Regional Medical Center treated the victims on scene with AtlantiCare paramedics before all three were airlifted to the trauma unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City by SouthSTAR, MedEvac 5 and MONOC Air One.
Police said at the scene two of the three victims were in critical condition. Late Wednesday night a nursing supervisor with AtlantiCare said she could not provide any updates on Rupinski and Hummel’s condition because their family members did not want any information released to the media.
Middle Township Fire Police closed Route 47 from Goshen Road to Court House-Dennisville Road for two hours while detectives with the Middle Township Major Crimes unit investigated the crash and crews worked to clear the wreckage.
No details on the cause of the crash were released Wednesday night. More information is expected to be released later today.
