UPDATE: Driver in Route 9 Crash Remains in Critical Condition

SEAVILLE — An Ocean View man remains in critical condition this afternoon following a serious crash on Route 9.
Ryan Schwarz, 21, of Ocean View and Nick Leadbetter, of Ocean City were injured on Fri., Jan. 28, at 2:45 a.m. in a single-vehicle crash here on Route 9 in the area of Erica Lane.
Police said Schwarz was driving a white BMW southbound when he , left the roadway, struck a utility pole, severed it then overturned. The car came to rest on its side against a tree in the front lawn of a home about 100 feet away from the pole.
The passenger reportedly escaped from the car and walked to a nearby home on Erica Lane to summon help.
Upper Township Rescue Squad, AtlantiCare paramedics and Seaville Fire Department were dispatched.
Schwarz was transported to the trauma unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City by Atlantic Air Two, where he remains in critical condition according to hospital spokesman, Frank Tedesco.
Leadbetter, was transported to the same trauma unit by Upper Township Rescue Squad and AtlantiCare paramedics. Tedesco said he was released from the hospital at around 1. p.m.
The State Police Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Unit were called to investigate due to the severity of the Schwarz’s injuries.
