DIAS CREEK – Middle Township Police Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 47 and Hand Avenue (CR658) in Dias Creek Sept. 16 at approximately 9:11 a.m.
Upon arrival officers found a two-vehicle crash. Investigation revealed Carlos Dechoudens, 44, of Pleasantville was driving northbound on Route 47 in a Mack dumpster truck. When Dechoudens approached Hand Avenue, Mary Puglia, 69, of Court House and driving a Toyota Avalon, attempted to make a left turn to go south on Route 47 at which point a collision occurred.
Court House and Goshen fire companies responded to the scene and used the Jaws of Life to remove Puglia from her vehicle. Both victims were transported to Cape Regional Medical Center by Middle Township EMS.
Puglia was pronounced dead later in the morning. Dechoudens had minor injuries. No charges have been filed at this time. The Cape May County Fire Police assisted with the road closure. The Middle Township Fatal Crash Team investigated.

Middle Township police received a report of a two-vehicle crash Sept. 16 at about 9:10 a.m. that occurred at Hand Avenue and Route 47, according to scanner reports.
The initial call reported that a semi-truck was into the woods. A second vehicle sustained heavy damage.
Police stopped traffic on the highway, and detoured motorists northbound at Hand Avenue and Route 47, and southbound at Goshen Road and Route 47, that post was later altered to Bucks Avenue and Route 47.
Court House and Goshen volunteer firefighters were summoned, Court House with the Jaws of Life hydraulic tool to free the driver of the second vehicle; Goshen was called to oversee the landing zone at the County Mosquito Department for the medevac helicopter, summoned to transport the driver of the semi-truck to a medical facility.
Middle Township Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene to aid and to transport victims.
Two persons were injured, and another was treated for shock, according to scanner reports.
Middle Township Police plan to issue a release later today.
