VILLAS – Lower Township Police Department was notified of a motor vehicle crash involving a vehicle which struck a private residence Feb. 16 at approximately 8:38 a.m.
According to a release, Lower Township Police, Lower Township Rescue, Erma Fire Department and Villas Fire Department immediately responded to the scene. The Regional Urban Search Team (RUST) was requested by the responding fire departments.
Upon arriving to the crash scene, officers observed a 2004 grey four-door Chevrolet Impala that had struck the residence in the 100 block McKinley Avenue in Bayside Village.
Scene investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle, identified as Joshua Revak, 27, was traveling northbound on Bayshore Road (County Road 603) when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the vehicle and crossed the southbound lane. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a curb before driving across the property in the first block McKinley Avenue, striking a wooden fence. The vehicle continued traveling across McKinley Avenue, across the lawn of the home in the 100 block McKinley Avenue, and finally into the front porch and living room of the home at that location.
Further investigation revealed that there were two occupants inside the residence, a 32-year-old female and an 11-year-old male. The female reported no injuries. However, the 11-year-old boy was on the couch in the living room and was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center. Preliminary reports from family members stated that the boy lost a tooth and had a possible concussion and is currently undergoing further medical evaluation.
Revak was evaluated on scene by Lower Township Rescue and declined additional medical treatment.
There was a small fire involving the engine compartment of the vehicle which was quickly extinguished by Villas firefighters with no extension into the dwelling, according to a City of Wildwood Fire Department release.
RUST units including Wildwood City Fire Department Rescue Co. 3 along with the RUST Structural Collapse Trailer and United States Coast Guard Tracen Fire Department Rescue 5971 responded to the scene. Members of the RUST team shored up the damaged areas of the home in order for the vehicle to be safely removed without causing additional damage to the structure. Once the shoring operation was complete the car was removed from the dwelling without incident. The county RUST Team operated on the scene for approximately two hours.
The cause of this crash is pending further investigation by Patrolman McNulty and Patrolman Mathis of the Lower Township Police Department. Witness statements are being taken and the investigation continues.
