UPDATE: Black Ice on Roads Leads to One Fatality, Multiple Crashes

GRASSY SOUND – Members of the Middle Township Police Department along with members of the North Wildwood Police Department responded to a multi-vehicle crash in the westbound lane of Rt. 147 (North Wildwood Boulevard) in the Grassy Sound section of Middle Township Feb. 21 at approximately 7:06 p.m.
When officers arrived on scene, it was discovered the roadway was covered in black ice and there were several chain reaction crashes involving a total of seven vehicles. During the sequence of crashes, some of which were in different areas of the bridge, one of the passengers in one of the vehicles involved in the crash, identified as Joseph Waldron, 45, of North Wildwood, exited the vehicle and was fatally struck by another vehicle.
The crash is currently being investigated by the Middle Township Police Department’s Crash Team. The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, the Rio Grande Fire Department and Middle Township Rescue responded and assisted with the investigation.
