RIO GRANDE– A 10-year-old boy was injured Saturday when he was pinned under a basketball court support pole at the Grande Woods Trailer Park.
Police were called to the scene at 6:57 P.M. along with rescue crews.
The child, who was visiting the area with his family from Philadelphia, suffered a crushing injury to the chest and lacerations to the face after the sporting equipment fell on him.
Rio Grande Rescue Squad and Atlanticare Paramedics provided medical care and transported him to the National Guard Armory, where he was transported by helicopter to Cooper Medical Center in Camden.
The park’s owner, Stephen Coyle, was contacted by police and advised of the incident. Coyle then closed the playground and secured the sporting equipment that injured the child. Witnesses came forward explaining the child was hanging on the rim of the basketball court when the support pole broke.
