SEA ISLE CITY — The parents of a woman who died at last year’s Polar Bear Plunge asked city officials to try to control the drinking at this year’s celebration.
Tracy Hottenstein, 35, of Conshohocken, Pa., died accidentally of hypothermia from exposure and acute alcohol intoxication, according to the Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. After a night of drinking at downtown area bars, Hottenstein’s fozen body was found in the morning of Feb. 15 near the banks of the water in the city’s marina district.
According to the Press of Atlantic City, Elizabeth and Charles Hottenstein, Tracy’s parents, addressed City Council on Tuesday night (Jan. 12) to read a statement regarding the her death.
“We know that we most likely cannot stop the 2010 Sea Isle City Polar Bear Plunge,” the mother said. “But we implore you to make it a model of safety so that no other family will ever have to endure this pain. You simply must control and you have a duty to control the overconsumption of alcohol on this weekend.”
This year’s Polar Bear Plunge is scheduled for Feb. 13.
