DENNISVILLE – A two-vehicle crash June 29 claimed the life of a Pennsylvania woman on Route 83 at milepost 3.4.
According to New Jersey State Police, the Woodbine Station received a call at 1:15 p.m. that reported the accident.
Troopers found a green Ford Expedition that was eastbound on Route 83 when it crossed the center line and entered the westbound lane and struck a white Toyota FourRunner.
The front-seat passenger of the Toyota, Karen Davies of Pennsylvania, sustained severe injuries. She was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Atlantic City, where she was later pronounced dead.
The Toyota’s driver and other passenger sustained minor injuries.
The driver of the Ford, Jillian Elliot of Dennis Township, was uninjured in the accident.
A criminal investigation was undertaken due to the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Elliot was criminally charged with violation of a law intended to protect public health and safety as well as driving under the influence. Additional charges are pending results of a toxicology report.
Members of the New Jersey State Police Criminal Investigation Office, Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Investigation Unit assisted with the ongoing investigation.
