SWAINTON – An Aug. 25 crash on Route 9 proved deadly for a Millville man.
Around 4:15 p.m., police responded to Route 9 and Eagle’s Way in Swainton for a report of a head-on crash. Callers told emergency personnel that a victim was trapped, according to a Middle Township police release.
The driver of a Honda Accord, Theodore O’Donnell Jr., 44, was headed north on Route 9 when he crossed the center line.
He side-swiped a Nissan Versa and directly struck a Ford F-150.
O’Donnell was extricated from the vehicle by members of the Court House Fire Department. He was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased.
The driver of the F-150 was also transported to the hospital for injuries.
Due to the crash, officials closed Route 9 for approximately two hours.
The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office assisted with the investigation.
Inspira Health and Goshen and Green Creek Fire Police also provided aid.
The Aug. 25 crash was the first fatal accident in Cape May County since late June. It ended the longest stretch without a fatal crash so far in 2022.
