Potholes Cause Multiple-Cyclist Pileup

TUCKAHOE –– A group of bicyclists riding on Tuckahoe-Mount Pleasant Road here crashed after encountering “several significant pot holes” near the southbound shoulder.
State Police from the Woodbine barracks were called at approximately 7:18 p.m. April 29 to the scene of a multiple bike accident at milepost 2.5 on the road otherwise known as County Road 664.
The group of 24 riders from Beacon Cycling and Fitness were on their last stage of travel when they encountered a large group of potholes in the roadway, police said.
Investigation revealed that approximately half of the cyclists made it through the series of potholes before one hit the hole sending several other to the ground.
According to a report, upon police arrival cyclists were being treated for injuries by Upper Township Rescue Squad.
The following cyclists were injured:
• Henry Lyons, of Ocean City, sustained a head injury and was airlifted to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center (ACRMC) for observation
• David Von Savage, of Cape May, sustained a broken left arm and was transported to ACRMC by Upper Township Rescue
• Chris Kraft, of Sweetwater, and Jeanne Keenan, of Petersburg, were treated at the scene by Upper Township Rescue.
Tuckahoe Fire Department responded to the scene for traffic detail.
