Police Look for Leads into Sea Isle Death on Memorial Day Weekend

PRESS RELEASE FROM COUNTY PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE:
COURT HOUSE – Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Sea Isle City Police Chief Thomas D’Intino announced Thursday, May 21 that an investigative initiative will take place this weekend in Sea Isle City, NJ. The action will be directed toward the investigation into the February 15, 2009 death of 35 year old Tracy Hottenstein in Sea Isle City, New Jersey.
Tracy Hottenstein’s clothed body, appearing wet from being in the water, was found by a passerby on Sunday morning, February 15, at approximately 7:35am at the street end on 42nd Place at the Sea Isle City Marina. Ms. Hottenstein was last seen exiting the Ocean Drive Bar and Restaurant located at 3915 Landis Avenue, Sea Isle City at approximately 2:15am on Sunday, February 15, 2009 and appears to have walked southbound on Landis Avenue. Hottenstein was wearing a black long sleeved top, dark blue jeans, tan Ugg brand boots, a pink plaid hat, and pink scarf. Investigators have not been able to determine all of Hottenstein’s movements after leaving the bar. It appears that Ms. Hottenstein had entered the water somewhere in the vicinity of the marina and had subsequently walked in her socks near the area where she was found. Investigators are attempting to gain answers into the circumstances surrounding how Ms. Hottenstein arrived in the area of the marina.
Teams of Detectives from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and the Sea Isle City Police Department will be in Sea Isle City on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights attempting to locate anyone that my have information about Ms. Hottenstein’s death. Detectives will be walking in the downtown area of Sea Isle City from 8:00pm until 4:00 am on all three nights. The County Prosecutor’s Incident Command Vehicle will be setup at the intersection of John F. Kennedy Blvd. and Landis Avenue and will remain there nightly for anyone that would like to provide information.
The Prosecutor’s Office and Sea Isle city Police Department continue to request the public’s assistance to determine her whereabouts after leaving the Ocean Drive Bar and Restaurant. Prosecutor Taylor and Sea Isle City Police Chief Thomas D’Intino encourage anyone who saw Ms. Hottenstein after 2:15am on Sunday February 15th, 2009 to contact the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit at 609-465-1135, the Sea Isle City Police Department at 609-263-4311, or in person at the intersection of John F. Kennedy Blvd. and Landis Avenue this weekend.
