Pedestrian Killed Crossing Rt. 147

BURLEIGH – A pedestrian was killed Aug. 10 about 9:13 p.m. as he crossed Route 147, North Wildwood Boulevard. 
According to a Middle Township Police Department release, a report was received at 9:13 p.m. of a pedestrian-motor vehicle accident in the vicinity of a motel.
An investigation revealed Robert Layton, 34, of Burleigh, was attempting to cross the highway while Steven Fosco, 47, of Oaks, Pa. was driving eastbound in a Dodge Caravan.
Fosco applied brakes and swerved to the left to attempt to miss Layton but ultimately struck him. Layton was pronounced dead at the scene. 
That section of Route 147 is divided by a concrete barrier. No charges were filed as of Aug. 11. 
Cpl. Leonard Larkin investigated the incident assisted by the Middle Township Police Department Major Crimes Unit, Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and Middle Township Police Department Fatal Crash Team. 
Also assisting was the Green Creek Fire Department and Middle Township Emergency Medical Service.
