SEAVILLE – Troopers from Woodbine Station were detailed to a car fire on County Road 628 (Corson Tavern Road) at 4:37 a.m. April 2. Upon arrival, troopers discovered a black 2006 Chrysler fully engulfed in flames. The vehicle was involved in a single-car motor vehicle accident. Additionally, the driver and occupant fled the scene.
Through investigative means, troopers located the driver and occupant, who were identified as follows:
Driver: Ulysses Rodriguez Jr., 21, of Woodbine, who suffered a laceration to his face and a complaint of pain in his abdominal area.
Occupant: Adriana M. Torres, 27, of Woodbine, who suffered a concussion, and a complaint of pain in her chest and arm.
It was determined that Rodriguez had consumed alcoholic beverages before operating the vehicle. The driver and occupant were transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center for further evaluation.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle was traveling southbound on County Road 628, when it crossed into the northbound lane, and subsequently left the roadway, striking a utility pole.
Rodriguez was charged with driving under the influence. Due to Torres’ injuries sustained during the crash, Rodriguez was additionally charged with assault by auto.
Responding units included Seaville Fire Rescue, Upper Township EMS and AtlantiCare Paramedics.
This investigation is still ongoing.
