From 2001 to 2010, 8,281 bicyclists were involved in accidents in eight Southern New Jersey counties: Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean and Salem. During this period, there were 63 bicyclist fatalities.
Between 2001 and 2010, 840 bicyclists in Cape May County were in accidents. One bicyclist was killed in these crashes. Based on crash rate, Cape May County is the most dangerous Southern New Jersey county for bicyclists.
In Cape May County, 270 bicyclists were in accidents between 2008 and 2010.
The Tri-State Transportation Campaign’s analysis of statewide crash records revealed that Cape May County 621/Pacific Avenue/New Jersey Avenue (38 bicyclists in accidents), Cape May County 619/West Avenue (30 bicyclists in accidents) and NJ 47 (20 bicyclists in accidents) were the three most dangerous roads.
