COURT HOUSE – One injury was reported in a Dec. 16 accident at 11:36 a.m. when a car struck Reef Family Pharmacy on Route 9.
Middle Township Police Department officers responded and found that a silver Corvette driven by Martin Shapiro, 79, of Wildwood was parking in a space in front of the pharmacy.
In a release police stated Shapiro told them the vehicle accelerated on its own and struck the building. The vehicle kept accelerating, with tires spinning. In an attempt to stop the vehicle from accelerating Shapiro put the vehicle in reverse. The vehicle then accelerated in reverse, and struck two other cars in the parking lot.
Shapiro was not injured. There was one injury from a pedestrian running out of the parking lot.
The pharmacy sustained damage to the front of the building.
Police issued Shapiro a summons for careless driving.
