VILLAS – Lower Township Police Department was notified of a two-vehicle crash with injuries July 7 at approximately 12:42 p.m. that had just occurred on Fulling Mill Road in Villas.
A multi-agency response was activated with assistance from Villas and Rio Grande fire departments, AtlantiCare medics, as well as Lower Township Rescue. It was reported that one vehicle was overturned and that it involved an entrapped occupant.
Upon arrival to the crash scene, Lower Township Police made contact with two vehicles. A dark-colored Ford Explorer was upside down on its roof in the rear yard of a property located on Bentz Avenue, with the driver still inside.
The driver, later identified as Joyce A. Rump, 63, was extricated from her vehicle by Fire and Rescue. She was then transported to the Cape May County Airport via ambulance and flown via Medivac to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center City Campus for further evaluation and treatment.
Crash investigation revealed that the second vehicle, a Honda minivan, was operated by Ruth Ann Beatrice, 85.
The second vehicle was traveling south on Mowery Avenue when it proceeded into the westbound lane of Fulling Mill Road striking the Ford Explorer prior to it leaving the roadway and overturning.
Both vehicles were towed from the crash scene.
Beatrice was issued a citation for careless driving.
The investigation is ongoing.
