NORTH CAPE MAY – Lower Township Police officers along with Villas Fire Department and Lower Township Rescue responded to the area of Charles Street and Bayshore Road March 16, at 11:38 p.m. to investigate the report of a single-car motor vehicle crash.
Upon arrival officers found the vehicle, operated by a 24-year-old man, who was not identified, had left the roadway and struck a tree.
The driver was trapped inside the passenger’s area which was filling with smoke.
Officers were able to assist the driver from the vehicle and moved him to a safe area.
After being treated on-scene for injuries by rescue personnel, the driver was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Center for additional treatment.
The driver was charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain a single lane.
Additional charges are pending further investigation which is being completed by Patrolman Michael Nuscis and Patrolman Matthew Gamble.
