The following was received from a law enforcement agency.
COLD SPRING – The Lower Township Police Department was notified of a motor vehicle crash on Ocean Drive in Cold Spring Aug. 5, at about 10:41 a.m.
According to a release, a multi-agency response was activated with assistance from Erma Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard Fire Department, Wildwood Crest Fire Department, AtlantiCare Mobile Intensive Care Unit, and Lower Township Rescue.
Upon arrival to the scene, Lower Township Police observed two vehicles still in the roadway, both with airbag deployment.
The first vehicle was a tan Kia Sportage, sport utility vehicle, in the northbound lane with severe front end damage.
The second vehicle was a white Mercedes Benz, sport utility vehicle, that was in the southbound lane, also with severe front end damage.
The driver of vehicle one was later identified as Joseph E. Anderson, 24, of Ardmore, Pa. Anderson had to be removed by fire personnel due to the severity of his injuries and extent of damage to his vehicle.
Once removed, he was transported by ambulance to Court House, before being relayed via Air Medevac to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division for medical evaluation and treatment.
The passenger of vehicle 1 and the driver of vehicle 2 were transported by rescue to Cape Regional Medical Center for medical treatment and evaluation.
The crash investigation determined that vehicle one was traveling north on Ocean Drive, approaching the second small bridge, before it crossed the centerline, and struck the front of vehicle two.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
This incident was under investigation with potential criminal charges pending.
