COURT HOUSE – On July 2, 2013 at 10:10 am the Middle Township Police Department responded to Stone Harbor Blvd in the area of the 96th street bridge for a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle. The investigation revealed that a pedestrian was on the sidewalk, waiting to enter the cross walk. A vehicle traveling east into Stone Harbor stopped to allow the pedestrian to cross. Another vehicle traveling east, driven by Pedro Jimenez-Avila, did not see the pedestrian. He ran off the road to the right to avoid striking the stopped car, and struck the pedestrian and her dog. The pedestrian was transported to Atlantic Regional Medical Center by Stone Harbor Rescue. The dog was killed on impact.
Pedro Jimenez-Avila was charged with Failure to maintain a lane and careless driving. The investigation is still ongoing and further motor vehicle charges are pending.
