COURT HOUSE — A school bus accident sent two Middle Township Middle School students to a local hospital Mon. April 2 after the bus they were riding on was struck by a car that allegedly ran a red light.
According to a report from Middle Township police, the collision occurred at the intersection of Route 9 and Mechanic Street at 12:43 p.m. Sixteen students were on board the bus.
Two 13-year-old students were injured with a neck and arm injury. The two were taken to Cape Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. The remaining students were transferred to another bus. Both vehicles were driven from the scene.
An investigation of the accident revealed the bus was traveling west on Mechanic Street. One vehicle ahead of the school bus went through a green light that had just changed. As the school bus began to cross the intersection it was struck by a black Lincoln MKZ, driven by 83-year-old Thomas D’Arcy of Court House. D’Arcy was traveling north on Route 9 when it struck the bus. Witnesses at the scene stated D’Arcy ran the red light.
The bus was driven by James Grugan, 64, of Court House.
No other injuries were reported. D’Arcy was issued a summons for disregarding a red light.
