Middle Township Police Save Man After Fall from Dock

By Herald Staff

GOSHEN – Two Middle Township police officers pulled a man from the water after he fell from a ladder and landed between his boat and the dock.
Police said 67-year-old William C. Dickinson of Dias Creek was climbing up a dock ladder at Layton’s Marina, Route 47, when he slipped and fell around 3:40 p.m. Sun., March 20 into Bidwell’s Creek.
He was unable to pull himself out even after a friend got a line to him, police said, and was in the frigid water for about 15 minutes before Patrolmen David Hagan and Martin Lindholm rescued him. The officers boarded the boat Dickinson fell from and pulled him back onto the vessel.
The boat was then driven across the creek to Bayway Marina, which has a floating dock.
Dickinson was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for treatment by Court House Volunteer Rescue Squad. The Goshen Fire Department also responded to assist. Police were alerted to Dickinson’s fall by a 9-1-1 caller.
