Middle Police Respond to Vehicle Pushing Incident

By Herald Staff

SWAINTON — What may be one of the oddest incidents Middle Township police answered in quite a while took place April 22.
On that day, at about 3:36 p.m., Middle Township Police received a 9-1-1 call from Kathryn Quirk of Princeton.
Quirk advised dispatchers that a vehicle had struck the rear of her vehicle and was pushing it. The vehicle was operated by William Quirk.
Quirk stated that their vehicle was first struck in Dennis Township near the Route 83 and Route 9 intersection.
Police operators notified N.J. State Police, but kept Quirk on the phone and received location updates.
A silver Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by John Graves of Ocean View, was pushing the Quirks’ silver Lexus approximately 45 mph south on Route 9.
Quirk was not able to stop his vehicle or pull away from the pickup truck as their bumpers had become hooked together.
Middle Township Patrolman Tracey Super was dispatched and observed the pickup truck pushing the Lexus in the area of milepost 15.1.
Super was able to get the two vehicles stopped without incident. Graves was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center to be evaluated to determine any medical conditions that would have caused his behavior.
There were no injuries reported and minor visible damage to both vehicles.
Case remains under investigation. Motor vehicle citations are pending.
