RIO GRANDE — On July 24, at approximately 3:49 a.m. Middle Township Police received a report of a motor vehicle accident, when a vehicle struck a utility pole on Route 47 near Secluded Lane.
When officers arrived they found a one-vehicle accident with damage to a utility pole and wires down.
Rio Grande Fire Department and Rio Grande Rescue responded to the scene as well as the Atlantic City Electric Company.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, Steven Nagle, 23, of Villas was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
Investigation revealed that Nagle was traveling west on Route 47 when he lost control of his vehicle and it veered off the roadway and struck the pole.
Police charged Nagle with driving while intoxicated and other motor vehicle offenses.
The accident knocked out power to residents in Rio Grande and Green Creek for several hours.
The roadway between Bayshore Road in Green Creek and Railroad Avenue in Rio Grande had to be closed so utility crews could remove the wires, and replace the pole.
Traffic was back to normal by 12:30 p.m. Patrol Officer Michelle Greenwaldt is investigating the accident.
