SEA ISLE CITY – A 69-year-old Medford woman was struck and killed by a Sea Isle City Department of Public Works vehicle on the Promenade Nov. 24 at 1:07 p.m.
The accident occurred during the same weekend as the city’s first annual holiday extravaganza, which ran from 5 p.m. Nov. 23 through 5:30 p.m. Nov. 24. The two-day event, which attracted residents and visitors alike, offered seasonal activities such as ice skating, a tree lighting, Santa Claus and carolers. All events were held at Excursion Park, JFK Boulevard and the Promenade.
The identity of the victim was requested to remain anonymous by her family, according to a police release issued Nov. 25.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle was on the Promenade cleaning up storm debris left by Hurricane Sandy.
No criminal charges were filed at this time. The accident remains under investigation by the Sea Isle City Police Department and Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
