Lower Police Car Involved in Crash

By Herald Staff

ERMA — A Lower Township police vehicle, driven by Sgt Thomas Beeby, was involved in a crash April 14 at 3:37 p.m. with a vehicle driven by Stephanie L. Hannum of Sheridan Boulevard at the Shunpike Road and Sheridan Boulevard intersection.
Since the crash involved a supervisor’s vehicle, command personnel and investigators went to the scene for photographs and to assess the scene and injuries.
According to police, Beeby sustained a lower back injury. He was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for treatment and later released.
Hannum and a young child in the rear seat were treated by Lower Township Rescue Squad and released.
Police said Beeby was traveling southbound on Shunpike Road when Hannum’s vehicle allegedly failed to yield as it entered Shunpike Road at Sheridan Boulevard. In an attempt to avoid a crash, Beeby applied brakes and turned away from the vehicle before impact in order to avoid a direct collision.
In a release, police credited that action with preventing a more serious accident.
Hannum was issued a motor vehicle summons for failure to yield to a stop sign.
The police vehicle was driven away. Hannum’s vehicle had to be towed due to heavy front-end damage.
