BURLEIGH – State Police responded to a Feb. 25 crash that caused two vehicles to leave the southbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway, sending one driver to the hospital.
According to State Police, the driver of a 2012 Jeep Wrangler, traveling south on the Parkway, lost control of his SUV after he reported hearing a popping sound emanate from the rear of the vehicle and the vehicle felt wobbly. The vehicle left the roadway near milepost 7.9 where it crashed into a guardrail on the center median strip and overturned, coming to rest on the driver’s side.
The driver of a pickup truck traveling behind the SUV lost control of her vehicle, traveled across a grassy area and crashed into a tree when she swerved to the right to avoid hitting the SUV.
The driver of the pickup truck was taken by ambulance to Cape Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries, said police.
The driver of the SUV that overturned was uninjured. “Thank God the guy in the Jeep had his seatbelt on because he could have been dead,” said an officer who was on scene.
In addition to State Police, Court House Fire Rescue, Rio Grande Rescue and Middle Township police also responded to the scene.
