Icy Road Conditions Cause Multiple Accidents County-wide

CAPE MAY COUNTY — Local Police Departments, EMS and Fire Departments were busy Friday, Jan. 2 responding to weather related motor vehicle accidents county-wide, as temperatures reached freezing. Temperatures were expected to dip into the mid 20’s, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly.
The Marmora Fire Department, Upper Township Rescue Squad and AtlantiCare Paramedics responded to a rollover crash at 6:40 p.m. on Stagecoach Road.
Middle Township Police, EMS, Middle Township Fire Departments and New Jersey State Police were dispatched to four accidents on Garden State Parkway Friday, Jan. 2 about 7:45 p.m.
Two vehicles left the roadway at milepost 5.4, two more, involving a reported overturned sport utility vehicle, took place at milepost 4. Both were in the northbound lanes.
One responding Middle Township officer cautioned others to exercise caution atop the overpass since he “almost lost it” due to icy conditions.
Belleplain Emergency Corps responded to three motor vehicle accidents within minutes of each other around 11:00 p.m., all three on route 9.
Responding Ocean View Fire Department apparatus were advised to “respond at reduced speed and to use caution”.
All accidents involved non life-threatening injuries.
As of 11:05 p.m. the northbound lane remained closed
