COURT HOUSE – A helicopter registered to Cape May County Department of Mosquito Control crashed at the Boyd Street field in Court House Aug. 25 around 10:40 a.m.
The tail number of the helicopter is N4035A.
According to Middle Township Police, two people were on board the helicopter at the time of the crash, the pilot and a passenger. Both were employees of Cape May County. Both were taken to Cape Regional Medical Center. The pilot was not injured and the passenger had non life threatening injuries. There were no injuries on the ground, and no houses were damaged.
Donald Hamer, a resident of S. Boyd Street tells the Herald what he heard and saw.
“I heard a noise and it kept getting closer and louder,” said Hamer. “The propeller hit the trees and I think that’s what caused it to come down. I think the pilot did a marvelous job getting the plane into the field. No damage was done to my house. A corner of my garden was destroyed and he (the pilot) hit the fence, but that’s nothing. The pilot was safe and that’s what counts. He was up on his feet but the medics laid him back down to attend to him.”
Schoolhouse Lane, Boyd St., and Stites Ave. were closed to traffic around the field during the invesitgation.
The crash is currently under investigation.
