COLD SPRING – Lower Township Police Department was notified of a multi-vehicle crash with injuries that had just occurred on the Route 109 bridge July 1 at approximately 4:29 p.m. A multi-agency response was activated with assistance from Wildwood Crest Police Department; Cape May Police Department; along with the Erma, Town Bank, and Cape May Fire departments, as well as Lower Township Rescue.
Upon arrival to the crash scene, Lower Township Police made contact with four disabled vehicles that were on top of the bridge. One passenger was still inside a vehicle with a severe complaint of pain. She was removed by fire and rescue and transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for further treatment, along with six additional passengers and drivers from the crash.
Crash investigation revealed that Tami Riddle, 24, was the driver of a 1997 silver Nissan Altima heading southbound on the Route 109 bridge when she crossed the center dividing line striking a 2016 Cadillac SRX SUV with four occupants head on. Subsequently, the 2016 Cadillac SRX SUV then struck a 2012 Honda Odyssey mini-van with three occupants. Riddle continued southbound in the northbound lane and struck a 2011 Honda Civic with one occupant. Her vehicle then struck the curb at the top of the bridge. All four vehicles were towed from the crash scene.
Riddle was issued two citations for reckless driving and failure to maintain lane. Patrolman McNulty is continuing the investigation.
