Estell Manor Man Hurt When Truck Hits Stopped Train

By Harry B. Scheeler Jr.

TUCKAHOE — An Estell Manor man suffered non-life threatening injuries after he collided with a train here on CR-664 on Saturday, Nov 15 at 12:29 a.m.
According to State Police, Eric R. Schairer Jr. was eastbound on CR-664 in a Dodge Ram pickup truck 100 feet west of Lincoln Road when he failed to recognize a stationary train and the flashing red railroad warning lights.
He struck a rail car. The truck sustained extensive front end and passenger side damage.
Further investigation determined that the train was not moving at the time of the accident due to the fact it was in the process of transferring empty cargo cars from one engine to another.
The rail car sustained minor damage as a result of the impact, according to State Police.
Schairer was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City by Upper Township Rescue Squad and Medic 8 with multiple non-life threatening injuries.
The Tuckahoe Fire Department responded to the scene.
The accident is being investigated by State Police Trooper Scott Tetzlaff of Woodbine Station.
