EDGEWOOD — A pickup truck and sport utility vehicle collided head-on Fri., Feb. 3 about 11:30 a.m. in the area of the state Department of Transportation yard and Route 9.
Middle Township police received the report of a motor vehicle accident with possible entrapment. Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that three vehicles were involved in the crash – a Jeep Liberty driven by Judith Griffis, 67, of North Cape May, a Blue Diamond trash truck driven by Luis Jimenez, 35, of Whitesboro and a pick up truck driven by William Harris, 69, of Burleigh.
According to police reports, Griffis’ vehicle possibly entered the oncoming lane of traffic on Route 9, striking the trash truck and then striking the pick up truck head on. It is believed that Griffis may have suffered from a medical condition prior to the crash.
Middle Township Emergency Medical Services, Middle Township Police Rio Grande and Green Creek Fire Companies responded to the accident that caused traffic to be detoured down Edgewood Avenue around the scene. Assisting with traffic direction was NJ Department of Transportation.
A medevac helicopter was dispatched to transport Griffis to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center for her injuries. Her condition is unknown. Harris was transported via ambulance to Cape Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
The accident remains under investigation by Ptl. Gino Castellano and Det. Clint Stocker of the Middle Township Police Department.
