DWI Charge Follows Crash That Overturned Second Vehicle

ERMA – Lower Township Police received a report Aug. 20 at 11:43 p.m. from a concerned motorist regarding an erratic driver on Breakwater Road.   
As patrol units were responding to the area to locate the vehicle, the suspected erratic driver, Andrew Williamson, 57, had rear ended a motor vehicle in the area of Breakwater and Shunpike roads.  
As a result of the collision, the other vehicle operated by Tiffany Depaul, 20, was pushed forward and then overturned on its side. 
Depaul and her passenger were both transported from the scene by Lower Township Rescue for treatment of non life threatening injuries. 
Williamson, who was not injured, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and two counts of assault by auto for operating his vehicle while under the influence and causing an accident which resulted in injury.  
Judge Thomas Hillegass set bail at $20,000 full cash. Williamson was committed in the Cape May County Correctional Center after defaulting on bail.
The accident was investigated by Patrolman Danze, Patrolman Saini and Patrolman Anzelone. Also assisting were the Erma Fire Company and Lower Township Rescue.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty. This report is based on information received from law enforcement.
