FOLSOM- Alicia M. Pickul, 27, of Hammonton was arrested on July 18 after she allegedly caused an accident on Sea Isle Boulevard in Dennis Township and left the scene. Pickul has since lost her job as a first grade teacher at the Folsom Elementary School as of July 28, according to published reports.
According to state police, Pickul of was driving a Honda Accord westbound on Sea Isle Boulevard when she allegedly hit a Isuzu Rodeo driven by Alexa Zauck from behind that was traveling in the same direction. The Rodeo then crossed into the eastbound lane overturning into the woods entrapping Zauck and a passenger Tracey Ruffino.
Ocean View and Dennis Fire Departments were dispatched to extricate the occupants that were trapped.
Zauck was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center by Sea Isle Ambulance Corps for minor injuries. Ruffino was airlifted to Cooper University Trauma Center in Camden by South Star medevac where she treated for serious injuries.
Pickul was charged with driving while intoxicated and assault by automobile. Pickul’s blood-alcohol at the time was 0.21, according to police.
The accident is currently under investigation by Trooper Carney of the Woodbine station.
