Driver Unhurt After Hitting Pole

DENNISVILLE – Troopers from the Woodbine Station were detailed to a one-car motor vehicle accident July 27 at 5:12 p.m. on County Route 550 at milepost 14.9 in Dennis Township.

A white Chrysler Town and Country van was traveling eastbound on County Route 550. Police say the driver of the vehicle fell asleep and ran off the roadway to the right. The vehicle subsequently struck a telephone pole (Atlantic City Electric), breaking the pole in half. The vehicle came to an uncontrolled final rest in the dirt off of the eastbound shoulder.

The accident resulted in a temporary loss of electricity for approximately one hour to Woodbine and Dennis Township residents.

The driver of the Chrysler Town and Country, William Hammill of Haddonfield did not sustain any injuries.

Hammill was charged with careless driving.

Responding units included Ocean View Fire Department and Dennis Township EMS.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty. This report is based on information received from law enforcement.
