Driver of BMW Arrested in H2oi Golf Cart Crash

Chaos is seen on Ocean Avenue in Wildwood.

By Herald Staff

WILDWOOD – After videos of a BMW colliding with a golf cart racked up thousands of views on social media platforms, county officials announced the arrest of the driver who caused the accident on the night of Sept. 24. The accident was one of several on 5-Mile Island that night.
County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland announced that they had arrested Eryk Wnek, 22, of Linden, and were charging him with aggravated assault in the second degree and assault by auto in the third degree.
The videos showed Wnek revving his engine at the light at Rio Grande Avenue and Park Boulevard. The light turns green and Wnek’s 2020 BMW launches across the intersection and “burns out,” colliding with a golf cart with six people on board.
Authorities released the identity of the victims. Erhan Bayram, 31, of Williamstown, was driving the golf cart when it was hit. Bayram was knocked unconscious and subsequently airlifted to AtlanticCare Regional Medical Center. Police said Bayram was in critical but stable condition as of Sept. 27.
Bayram was accompanied on the golf cart by Jessica Clepacz and four juveniles. All were treated for non-life-threatening injuries on the scene Sept. 24.
Wnek is being held at the Cape May County Correctional Facility.
Any charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
