COLD SPRING – Lower Township Police Department received a report of a three-car motor vehicle crash that involved a head on collision with airbag deployment, in the area of Seashore Road and Strawberry Lane during the evening hours of April 21.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that a vehicle operated by Joseph R. Bonner, 26, from Doylestown, Pa., had left the northbound lane crossing the center line and headed directly into oncoming traffic in the southbound lane. Bonner was operating a grey sedan that struck the rear passenger side of a white Honda SUV that attempted to swerve out of its way. Bonner’s vehicle then struck a small black Chevrolet SUV, head on, that was directly behind the white Honda.
A female driver of the small black Chevrolet SUV was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for multiple injuries and underwent surgery the following morning. According to family members, she is still hospitalized, suffered two broken wrists and is still under evaluation and care.
Bonner was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for treatment of a head injury. Lower Township Rescue, Medic-5, West Cape May and Erma fire departments responded to the scene and assisted with the crash scene and injured persons.
Bonner was later released from Cape Regional Medical Center and transported to Lower Township Police headquarters, where he was further processed and released in accordance with John’s Law. He was issued three motor vehicle summonses for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane. Additionally, he may be facing criminal charges.
This incident is still currently under investigation by Patrolman Matthew Gamble and Patrolman William Kocis.
