Driver Escapes Submerged Vehicle in Bay Uninjured

By Herald Staff

OCEAN VIEW – Authorities say a driver managed to swim back to shore after his pickup truck went into a local bay early morning May 21, according to a report on NBC 40.
Police and fire officials responded around 12:30 a.m. to Sea Isle Boulevard in Ocean View, mile post 1.5 Eastbound.
Authorities say a 2009 Chevy Silverado left the roadway, and entered the bay, when the driver stated that he fell asleep while driving.
Fire officials say that the man managed to avoid injury from the accident, and swam back to land safely while his truck sank into the water.
Rescue crews called off their search for the vehicle around 2:00 a.m. due to the high tide. The truck was discovered later, in a marsh about 100 yards from shore just before dawn.
No one else was in the truck at the time of the crash.
